Who we are

Sture Design holds the design rights to Alf and Gunnvor Een Sture. In 2021, we, their grandchildren, took over responsibility for managing Sture Design, with the aim of preserving and renewing the design work of Alf Sture and Gunnvor Een Sture and promoting the cultural heritage they represent.

We wish to carry forward, renew, and preserve the work and legacy of Alf and Gunnvor Sture through new and revitalized designs, increased exposure, and new partnerships. We also want to contribute a living presence in Norway's design scene today. In parallel, we wish to highlight Alf and Gunnvor Sture's role in the progressive design culture of the post-war era through exclusive archival material and information.

Alf and Gunnvor Sture's work rested on the same foundation: artistic talent, craftsmanship, and an uncompromising standard for quality that never wavered across decades of design. Alf shaped furniture that held to that standard through six decades of change, working closely with the craftsmen who built it; Gunnvor, a designer in her own right, brought the same rigour to her hand-drawn textile patterns and interiors. That shared standard shaped who we work with today, from Norway's finest craft-based makers to our current partner, Tonning Møbelfabrikk in Stryn, which carries their designs from handcraft into modern production without ever trading quality for convenience. We hold to that same principle today, staying as close as possible to the craft and methods behind each original design.

“For a person to thrive, it is important to live in a safe environment. We want to surround ourselves with familiar and cherished things—things that are alive to us and that mean something to our minds…

In the home, safety and love should prevail; it should be a place where the struggle for existence has been quieted. The home and the cabin are the only places where we still have a chance to be ourselves…

More than anything else, we need to find our way back to ourselves. This is romanticism—I am a romantic—but at the same time it is a realistic view, and I do not believe in anything else.”
